About Us
Mission Statement: Mobilizing community members and resources to support youth and families in building a safe, healthy, and drug-free lifestyle.
Substance abuse erodes the health and safety of our community. Child abuse and neglect, unemployment, poverty, crime, violence, avoidable medical care, homelessness, and overdoses are some of the devastating effects we have seen in our area. This is why effective prevention services are vital for our community.
The Empowering People & Impacting Community (EPIC) Coalition is a nonprofit organization comprised of local volunteers dedicated to the mission of 'supporting youth and families in building a safe, healthy, and drug-free lifestyle.'
We believe 'LOCAL PROBLEMS, REQUIRE LOCAL SOLUTIONS and with the help from our community, we work to create sustainable, healthy changes by investing in prevention planning and practices that lead to the best possible outcomes.
The Coalition structure includes the Community Prevention Coordinator (Executive Director), Executive Officers (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer), Steering Committee Members, and general Members that fill various committees and project work groups. As a community mobilizer, EPIC is creating a culture of promoting healthy choices; advocating for policies and regulations that protect youth; and facilitating opportunities for education and leadership development in prevention.
EPIC is part of the Community Prevention and Wellness Initiative (CPWI), a Washington State program to plan, develop, and implement community-wide strategies to reduce and prevent underage drug and alcohol use. The EPIC Coalition is supported by the fiscal agent, Educational Service District 112.
EPIC was formed in 2018 after being identified as an under-served community experiencing high levels of underage drinking, marijuana and opioid use, crime, unemployment, and school failure.
